One week and counting...

April 24, 2005 - So it has been a week since I have completed all my schoolwork - what have I done this week ? NOTHING. I have seen a few dvds, flipped through a few magazines, played my SimCity 4 for days, and even tried to do some reading..but all this is starting to get old. So with the last week of April coming up, I hope I will hear from the provs. soon - I don't know how long I can do this "sit and do nothing" thing...

My grandmother did come and visit us though - we picked her up at the airport. She looks better and healthier than the last time she was here, which is good ! The airport trip though reminds me of how badly I want to go on vacation...so I went home and tried to make a list of my travel plans...looks something like this:

1992 - Los Angeles (Disneyland), Hong Kong
1994- San Francisco, San Jose, Sacramento, Chicago

2004- London, Paris, Nice-Southern France, Ottawa, Boston

Now...if only I can fulfill what I've planned ! Ok - need to cross fingers for a job...and soon...

Mixed Use Neighbourhoods

April 16, 2005 - In school, I have always heard about the many advanatges of living in a mixed use neighbourhood. It's hard for me to relate to the idea at times as my suburban experiences have always been based on segregated land uses. However, today I got to witness first hand how mixed use neighbourhoods indeed do have a certain charm. As I was leaving Jason's this morning, I got the chance to walk around the Yonge/Eglington area - the landscape of the area is definitely different than what I'm accustomed to. There were lots of people walking around, businesses such as restaurants and small grocery stores were filled with busy saturday shoppers, people were actually using public transit...I really liked how they have the commercial businesses lined up along the main streets (Eglington) and right behind them are the apartment buildings, town homes, and the old single detached homes. It gives a great sense of diversity and makes the neighbourhood more alive. In contrast, if I look out the window right now - I'd be lucky to even see a car - let alone a person walking...

Moving to Ottawa ?

April 14, 2005 - So today I finally made a decision about teacher's college - I accepted Ottawa's offer and sent them a check of $200. Do I really want to be a teacher ? to be honest - not really. After spending years tutoring kids, I think I have really lost any passion that I once might have for teaching. Kinda sad I know but STS does that to ya. So why am I going to teacher's college ? still the original reason why I signed up in the first place: as a backup. I know it's not exactly the end of the world even if I can't get a job by August - but I really really cannot imagine myself moping around the house for months being unemployed. The thought of spending all my time at home with my mom is enough to make me accept the offer - even if it means moving to Ottawa. Let's hope I won't have to do that though - cross my finger for the provs job.

Oh tonight was the Spring Social too - it was nice to see everyone together, who knows when/if we will get that chance again anytime soon. Kinda sad though - another reminder that my school days are indeed over...

A New Beginning

April 12, 2005 - My first blog entry ! I finally have time to sit around and play with this site. So today was my last day of school, at least officially. Wow - kinda hard to believe. After 6 years, am I really leaving U of T behind for good ? What's life really like outside this place ? Will I be able to get a job ? Am I still going to be friends with these ppl after graduation ? What if I can't find a job ? So many questions, so few answers. Better pull out my "The Quarterlife Crisis" book out tonight eh...

On a good note, I did survive my last lecture without falling asleep....and I did manage to get an A on that city management paper that I have been worrying about ! phew...now the only thing left to do is to hand in my CIP/thesis to those great ppl at Richmond Hill (whatever..).

So the end of a chapter, the beginning of a new one...it's supposed to be fun, exciting and scary right ?
